[Biography]: Bez Idakula ( @BEZidakula )

Bez did not stumble upon music; it was inscribed
on his genes. He grew up as a musical child in a
musical family, absorbing every bit of music
around him and transmitting all of it through the
instrument he loved most, the guitar. While in
college, he pursued an undeniable passion for
music, honing his skills day by day to produce
one of the most remarkable playing styles.
His first live performance was with gospel group KUSH,
and then other regular performances with Sage
Has son, (A spoken word artist) followed, sharing
the stage with Mode9, Terry tha Rap Man, Djinee,
M.I, Roof Top Mcs and many more in quite a
number of events including Taruwa® an
unplugged show he features in regularly.
One of his most defining moments was performing as an
opening act with Cobhams, an ace producer at
Asa’s two day concert in Lagos.
Tagged as “The next big thing” in the Nigerian
music scene by the Guardian and Thisday
newspapers in two consecutive weeks, his style
can be described as a hybrid of jazz, soul, and
world music, a really eclectic sound he calls
alternative soul. Though quite different from the
ever-popular afro hip-hop genre in Nigeria, he
believes the quality of his music would create a
niche by itself taking him to greater heights as he
takes a life long ride creating and sharing his
music with the world.
Achievements
Bez received five nominations in the 2012
Headies, Nigerian music awards, for Recording Of
The Year (single “Stupid Song”), Best R ‘N’ B Single
(“Stupid Song”), Best R ‘N’ B/Pop Album (Super
Sun), Best Collaboration (Stupid Song featuring
Praiz), Best Vocal Performance, and Hip Hop
World Revelation.
